Mad City

On August 17th the High School kicked off their first "Adulting Day" with an activity called Mad City put on by 1st MidAmerica Credit Union. During this activity students were paired and then assigned random household dynamics such as monthly incomes, credit card debt, student loans and how many children were in the home.  Each pair had to carry around a debt card and keep track of their transactions/payments and stay within their monthly budget.

Throughout the activity students had to travel to all 9 different booths which consisted of: transportation, housing, child care, groceries, home goods, clothing, credit union, fun stuff (vacations/activities), and the mall (entertainment).  Half way through, the students were given a curve ball to where they either won the lottery, got a raise/promotion, got laid off or were blessed with twins or triplets.  The students then had to go back and decide how they were going to live within their new means whether that be downsize or upgrade.

All the students seemed to really get into this activity and took their roles very seriously.  Some were asking if they could get a divorce while most were commenting that they do not want any children because they are way to expensive!!!

This activity was a great way to introduce the first "Adulting Day" here at BHS and we would like to thank 1st MidAmerica Credit Union for taking the time out of their day to put this together for us!  Be on the look out for the next "Adulting Day" here at BHS!
